2003 is old? That's harsh...

2003 is six years and two chipsets ago.

Exactly. Six years is yesterday's news and way behind cutting edge, but that's not actually OLD. I mean, that's newer than Morrowind! Huge 3d-world populated by 3d-creatures, with dynamic lighting and varying weather and time of day. Morrowind and Overgrowth mostly differ in the quality of their models and dynamics, and what the control scheme is designed to allow. 1994 is old: vector landscape decorated with a handful of 2d sprites (Betrayal at Krondor), and 1998 is old: huge world in beautiful 2d populated by sprite-creatures (Baldur's Gate).

I know that supporting aging hardware would put huge limits on Overgrowth, especially since it will probably be on sale for several years and thus played on even more powerful computers. I didn't say I disagreed with their decision. I just said that calling 2003 "old" is harsh, as in "uncomfortably stern".

I said that the iBook G4 might not run OG. It's a very, very low end laptop that had trouble running games even at the time. I'm not sure how you are extrapolating that into me saying that we are not supporting all computers from 2003.

I'm sorry it sounded like that. I'm used to arguing with people who think a year-old computer is hopelessly outdated, and hadn't looked at G4's details.

Personally, I think you shouldn't be too afraid about demanding a lot from a computer, as long as they can be disabled in "normal" computers. There's nothing wrong in a "too high" setting for graphics, only expected to become usable two-three years after the game's first release.
